Professor Tom Walley, CBE - Biography

Director, NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies and Director of the EME Programme

Photo of Professor Tom Walley Tom Walley has been Director of the EME programme since its inception in 2008. He is also director of NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies and the HTA programme.

He is Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Liverpool University and also works as a Consultant Physician at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

He formerly headed a research group at Liverpool University, focusing on drug prescribing, pharmaceutical policy, and clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness.

In June 2008, he was awarded a CBE by the Queen for his services to medicine.

The Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation programme is funded by the MRC and NIHR, with contributions from the CSO in Scotland and NISCHR in Wales and the HSC R&D, Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland. It is managed by the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC) based at the University of Southampton.
