UKCRN (UK Clinical Research Network)

The establishment of UK clinical research networks has shifted responsibility for registering eligible research projects from NHS organisations to the researcher. You can access details on how the Clinical Research Networks are collecting data on the NIHR CRN website. The method of registration is specific to each nation and the total collection forms the UKCRN Portfolio Database.

For information, the National Research Register (NRR) ran from 1997 to 2007 and captured information on research undertaken in NHS organisations. This historical public resource is available on the NIHR website.

International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN)

All EME projects which are randomised controlled trials must register for an ISRCTN. The ISRCTN is a simple numeric system for the unique identification of randomised controlled trials worldwide. The ISRCTN Register also accepts registration of other forms of studies designed to assess the efficacy of health-care interventions. You can apply online at the ISRCTN website. Costs of registration need to be met from your project grant. Please ensure the source of funding is detailed as "The Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation programme (www.eme.ac.uk)".
